EMAIL SUBSCRIBERS: We’ve been playing “catch-up” on some of Doran’s letters and rather than spam your inbox with multiple messages, please make sure to read all of his posts at Elder Erickson in Samoa.
Doran departed Provo’s MTC at 11 AM MDT on Saturday, August 23rd. His Grandparents, Don and Cheryl Hansen, plus cousins L and G, were able to meet him for a short visit at the Salt Lake City airport. Doran and his traveling companions arrived safely in Samoa at 8:05 PM WST on Monday, August 25, 2014 after 19 hours of flying and 21 hours of airport layovers.
We received [9:30 PM EDT (MON)/2:30 PM WST (TUE)] confirmation of his arrival via a much appreciated phone call from Sister Tolman. She reported that the group had spent Monday night and Tuesday at the mission home and that at the time of her call were taking a much needed nap. Becky and Sister Tolman had a quick mom-to-mom chat, with Sister Tolman – as expected – saying only wonderful things about our Elder Erickson. She assured us he would be well looked after in Samoa, and Becky assured her Doran was there because he wants to be there, having decided on his own that a mission was where he needed to be. Sister Tolman also asked that we pray the Apia Samoa Mission can successfully implement email correspondence for their missionaries. Coincidentally, Becky had just spent time on Monday reading Sister Tolman’s blog (http://samoamission.blogspot.com/). It was a pleasure and infinitely reassuring to receive that phone call – we are confident that Doran is in very capable hands. Behind every great mission president is most certainly a power house mission president’s wife!
